9910.0. "? DUNIX Internals text book, draft??" by GREGOR::OPP () Wed May 21 1997 14:10

    	Is there a "Digital UNIX Internals & Data Structures" text book
    under development? If not, I believe there should be. I attended
    Part 1 of the UNIX Internals course last week and was extremely
    disappointed that an "internals and data structures" reference was
    not distributed to each student. Considering the tuition is $1595
    per student and the course materials are not indexed, I left the
    course feeling gypped and without a suitable reference.

    	I've checked some of the other topics that have "internal" in
    the title. However, none of the references in topics 2789, 3093,
    3352, or 3910 seems to be current.

    	So, of the generic UNIX internals texts that are hopefully
    available through the HLO Library, which one is the closest to matching
    UNIX V4.0x?  Thanks,

    Greg

    Hi

    Did you see digital_unix 6963 ?
    That's not very current either, but it would appear that there's a book
    in the pipeline

    I agree, an Internals & Data Structures book is long overdue.

    Hi, folks.

    I checked the other day and the internals and data structures
    book by Ahmed Streatah should be out in the July/August time
    frame. He could not give me an ISBN number yet. I'd say the
    changes in 4.0 set them back a bit! :-)

    I should get the ISBN number soon and I'll post it here.

9910.4What about OSF/1 Internals text?RICKS::OPPWed Jun 04 1997 05:379
    RE: .3

    	Thank you. Then I'd assume that ordering the OSF/1 V1.2
    Internals text would be a waste of time. I have a copy on
    loan from the Digital Library Network and it seems to be sparse
    on data structures and more architectural in nature. I also
    assume that since it's based on V1.2, there are many modifications
    that it does not cover. Is this correct?

9910.51.2 is fossilized by now :-)RHETT::PARKERWed Jun 04 1997 10:3015

    Hi, Greg.

    Yeah, I'd say if it's really based on V1.2 that it is not
    going to be very useful now. I'm trying to locate an extra
    set (3 manuals) from a recent source level internals course
    we had here recently. If/when I do, I'll be glad to send it
    to you. I've also got one based on 3.0 if you want that one.

    Still waiting for that ISBN number too...
