A customer has asked if his defpa-db will work in SAS mode on his V4.0b
dunix system.
It has always been my understanding that any DAS capable interface will
also work in SAS mode or am I missing something here?

You're not missing anything, you're correct. It's fine to run a DAS A
port as a M port (connecting it to a concentrator). The board, I
believe, is smart enough to figure it out.
That should be in the document that comes with the adapter, but I
haven't looked at that document for a long time.
