9867.0. "This doesnt look like a tar archive" by BARNA::MARQUEZ () Mon May 19 1997 07:49
Hi,
I have a problem when restoring a tar tape:
My customer did a tar copy with tar cvf /dev/rmt1h, and when he tries to
recover it with tar xvf /dev/rmt1h or tar tvf /dev/rmt1h the followinf error
occurs:
tar: /dev/rmt1h: this doesnt look like a tar archive
skipping next file....
The file where the error occurs is a file greater than 4Gbytes
I tried to do a dd if=/dev/rmt1h of=file bs=64k, and a tar tvf file, the same
error.
I tried to use the tar file from obsoletes save sets, and the error is:
bad checksum directory at the same file.
Looking at COMET I found Case CFS.47699 and in the 11 item there is a solution
There are 3 files in guru::"/usr/guest/misc/osf/MANBBP075" (pax_v32c,
sbin_pax_v32c, pax.cat_v32c), and a README file with the solution for tar to
correctly handle a file whose size exceeds 4Gbytes.
I had implemented this,without success.
In my understand, I think this solution is for next time the customer does a
tar copy of a file greater than 4GBytes, he can recover it, but my question is:
There is a workaround to recover the actual tape ???
It is very important for us to find a solution.
Best Regards
Julian J. Marquez
