9808.0. "uerf and syserr file...problem?" by NNTPD::"[email protected]" () Wed May 14 1997 00:34

Hi

I have installed two copies of V4.0b of DU on an AlphaServer 4100, 4xCPU
configuration. Each time, when I go to use uerf with any qualifiers it
tells me there is an error reading the syserr file and that is the extent
of the message.

Are you aware of any bugs, patches, etc I might need? Anyone else have
this problem?

Cheers
Steve

I agree with -.1, use DECevent, but uerf should also work.
Any chance you're simply not running it as root? The binary.errlog
    file is not world-readable:

    -rw-r----- 1 root adm 97696 May 12 11:01 /usr/adm/binary.errlog

DECevent will give similar errors if you're not privileged.

can someone from engineering give a difinitive answer here- I was told
that uerf is no longer supported, and has not been updated to decode
errorlogs from later 2100's all 8400's and all 4100's

Is this true? If so we cold save a LOT of field frustration by clearly
    stating it.

It is true that uerf is no longer supported. In .2 I was merely
stating that DECevent (dia) would get the same protection problems that
uerf would get when run by a non-privileged user.

DECevent is the supported binary.errlog interpreter.
