9788.0. "Single user mode won't boot" by RECV::CRONIN (Wait a min. MR. I didnt even kiss her) Mon May 12 1997 16:07

    Hi,

         I need to shut a Dec 2000 to single user mode but it won't work
    anymore. I tried "shutdown now" and also tried >>> boot -fl S

         The machine starts to boot into single user mode and then it looks
    like the INIT process encounters the /usr/new/tcsh from somewhere and
    the system kicks into run level 3.

         Anyone ran into this problem before? Know how to fix it?

    Thanks

9788.1How about init s?NNTPD::"[email protected]"Brian HaleyMon May 12 1997 17:4310
Hi,

The two methods you mentioned should have worked, the only other I can think
of is "init s".

Has anything changed recently on the machine (firmware, OS, ...) that could
have caused this, or have any "customizations" been made to /etc/inittab?

    Never mind...the tsch was being invoked from profile of the root
    account.
