9775.0. "How to control Path MTU Discovery in V4 ?" by LEMAN::GABLER () Mon May 12 1997 04:45
Hi,
Since Digital UNIX V4.0 Path MTU Discovery (RFC 1191) has been implemented.
This had for effect to bring one router to become congested in one of my
customer's network. The router (A Wellfleet) worked well with 576 bytes
packets, but now the minimal MTU is 1500 bytes between the concerned End
systems and this router start to drop packets after a certain amount of
traffic.
I made some test and the router work well up to 1200 bytes/packet.
So, is there a way to fix the Maximal MTU size used for 'non-local' traffic on
my end-systems that are running Digital UNIX V4.0A ?
I don't want to lower the MTU on my PHY Layer with ifconfig because i still
whant my 'local' traffic to work with 1500 bytes/packets. And the router's MTU
size cannot be changed due to some strange reasons.
Thanks for answer
Clark
