9774.0. "Question on Unix Source Code" by ADOV01::MANUEL (Over the Horizon....) Mon May 12 1997 04:20

    When I order QB-MT4AA-E8 Unix sources, do I get the complete source
    suite or do I need to also order components from SCO or OSF or from
    anywhere else.

    Any help appreciated.

    Thanks
    Steve.

9774.1Unix sources will not include PALcode sources.RICKS::HOOKERFranklin Hooker, 225-4360, HLO2-3/D11Mon May 12 1997 11:118
Since PALcode comes along with the firmware you will not
have those sources unless you have the firmware source
code. This is not likely to be included with Unix sources.
For internal use you can probably gain free access if you need
it. For external use, as I understand it, there is another
costly $$$ source license required.

9774.2There are other things it doesn't include as well.WTFN::SCALESDespair is appropriate and inevitable.Mon May 12 1997 15:529
.0> do I get the complete source suite

No. There are portions of the Digital Unix source code which contain trade
secrets, proprietary information, or components which Digital licenses
individually. (The threads library is one example.) These are not distributed
externally, because there are good business reasons not to do so.
