9762.0. "CP reports IO error on vmcore.1" by COMICS::CORNEJ (What's an Architect?) Fri May 09 1997 05:39
I noticed the other day that if two processes "cp vmcore.1 x.x" and
"cp vmcore.1 y.y" at exactly the same time, the second cp reports an
IO error on the input file. This is 100% reproduceable on DU V4.0B
with AdvFS. The dump is obviously a sparse file (the x.x is much
larger :-)
While I don't expect copying the core dump will be done by many users
at the same time (I was copying /usr to a scratch disk to generate some
load), real applications may experience this.
Is this a bug, feature or what?
