9753.0. "Unix compatibility across 3.2X" by XFMV01::AJITK () Thu May 08 1997 06:54
Hi
This is regarding the binary compatibility of Digital Unix
versions 3.2x.
An ISV (OASIS) has an application which is developed and running
on Digital Unix 3.2C. A customer of this ISV application
wants to purchase new Alpha boxes which will run only
Digital Unix 3.2G. The ISV says that the application
is supported only on Digital Unix 3.2C.
A discussion here (5433.7) says that Digital guarantees
100% binary compatibility for applications when moving
across Digital Unix releases which differ only in the Alphabet
part of the version.
I want to confirm if this applies for applications built under
version 3.2C and deployed under version 3.2G ? Also if this
is the case, I assume that there will not be any recompilation
required.
Can I get an official statement from product mgmt on this so
as to be able to increase customer's and ISV's comfort
level ? Whom to contact for this ?
Also the ISV application is something which is going to be
used by our customer to build applications on top. So it is
important to get ISV to say yes. Can anyone share their
similar experiences if any ?
Thanks in advance.
