My customer asks me that he wants to use VDUMP to backup many savesets on a tape and use VRESTORE to restore all saveset to a disk. He would like to ask what command can he use ? Any advice should appreciated.

Write to the norewind tape device: vdump 0f /dev/nrmt0h /file-system ^ To restore, use the norewind device there as well. You might need to the mt(1) command to skip over the file mark at the end of each backup. Vdump and vrestore may have options to tell it to use the norewind device with- out having explicitly specify it. Read the manual page to find out. |
