9747.0. "Another little different "wall" problem !" by VAXRIO::63222::Manoel () Wed May 07 1997 19:06
Hi, folks
There is a customer with a DIGITAL Unix version 3.2c machine and
he has installed all patches from DUV32CAS00001-19961217.tar.
Now the "wall" command has a odd behaviour.
First, the wall command is always typed from a PC emulating terminal
via tcpip with a third party software.
If you connect as root and issue a wall command only root receive it
correctly, other nonroot accounts don't, and there are some lines repeated
with the message "/dev/:is a directory" in the screen of the person that is
root and is trying to send the message.
I you are logged in using a nonroot account, you won't receive the
message from root, but if you login to a root account and then issue login to
a nonroot account then you will receive the message.
Can someone shed some light here ?
Any help or pointer would be very appreciated.
Thanks.
Manoel F. Abreu Neto (MCS/DEC@Rio)
ps: Customer has installed system V environment.
