9741.0. "network problems with LAT and updated V4.0B" by ALFAM7::STREPPEL () Wed May 07 1997 08:23
For the first time in 2 years I did an update installation instead of a
full one - with consequences. This was from 4.0A to 4.0B. We had
terrible network problems - LAT failed, NFS timeouts, VMS cluster
trouble - after the final reboot of the updated system
and were looking into all sorts of possible causes for this trouble.
We finally found out that it was my machine (a Flamingo) that caused
the trouble. Disconnecting it from the net resolved the problem.
Rebooting the old V4.0A kernel also solved the problem. Rebooting the
new 4.0B kernel we found that the second when LAT was started network
trouble began. On another node we got several LAT protocol errors.
Stopping LAT solved the problem.
Also building a new kernel by adding a couple of options that had got
lost during the update - PACKETFILTER, CDFS, ... - and booting that
kernel with LAT started solved the problem.
Strange, isn't it? It would be interesting if someone else has the
same problem.
