| Can you please respond to these questions:
1) what version of Digital UNIX is the customer using?
2) does the customer have any NIS slave servers, or just the master?
3) what patches does the customer have installed?

My customer have't NIS slave servers. He has NIS master & few clients.
Addition,We configured NIS failover on ASE environment. When one member is
master server, the other is client. Its work is fine.

9689.3 | Check for problems with ASE | NNTPD::"[email protected]" | Ann Majeske | Mon May 05 1997 14:03 | 4 |
| The only thing that I can think of is that there might be a problem with
ASE. Check out notes 4098, 7177, and 7328. There is also a notes conference
for ASE referenced several places in this notes file, SMURF::ASE.

I had taken backup on the customer's system, then restore to the internal
lab machine. I tried to re-configure C2 & NIS that is standalone environment
(NOT ASE). I experienced same problem.
I don't think dependent ASE.
Thanks for any advice.
Shinichi.

| Your customer's problem is probably caused by something strange that they
have done in their configuration. Unfortunately, I don't have the time to
investigate this in more detail. It could take hours searching through
their system configuration to find the problem, and I have other more
important
problems (customer system crashes) to work on. So, unless you or someone else
out there can figure this out, your customer will just have to live with it
for now. The GUI interfaces for Enhanced Security were completely re-written
for V4.0, which means that your customer's problem may go away if they upgrade
to V4.0. Your customer also has a workaround to the problem they are
experiencing in V3.2G, so it shouldn't be too hard to live with. You can also
work at understanding the problem better yourself to see if you can come up
with a solution. I suggest that you look at the Security Manual for more
information about Enhanced Security and how it works with NIS (there is a
large
section in the manual about this).

| Hi,
I just traced the cause of problem.
When I had configured NIS,I created symbolic link for /var/yp/src.
It was not exist "Makefile" file in the parent directory of the symbolic link.
The effect,XIsso could not perform "../make"
Thanks,
Shinichi
