9688.0. "Can't uudecode Japanese mail file?" by DECC::SULLIVAN (Jeff Sullivan) Wed Apr 30 1997 18:27

We received a mail message with a uuencoded file from a person in Japan
(guessing based on the reply address). The uuencoded file that was included
within the mail looked like no other I had ever seen. It had spaces in between
each line. When extracted and uudecoded, the decode failed.

Is this a problem because the file was uuencoded in a different locale?
(I assume kanji, but again am just guessing)

The text in the mail message appeared to be OK, so the mailer may not be
related to the problem.

Thanks,
-Jeff

    Neither uuencode nor uudecode are dependent on the locale. It sounds
    as though the file was corrupted some other way. Was it encoded on a
    DIGITAL UNIX system ?

9688.2The mailer did it...DECC::SULLIVANJeff SullivanThu May 01 1997 18:326
I think the user's (kanji) mailer corrupted the file. He resent it, I assume
with a different mailer or settings, and we had no problem decoding it on our
end.

Thanks,
