    We are experiencing a serious problem with our AS8400 running DUNIX
    4.0a ever since we upgraded our processors and memory from an 8 CPU 300
    MHz system by 8 Gig, to 10 CPU 440 MHz system by 12 Gig.  We can't get
    NFS to work.  
    
    The system firmware before the hardware upgrade was at the revs on the
    3.8 firmare CD because we originally tried months ago to upgrade to
    DUNIX 4.0b but ran into binary compatibility problems (with our product)
    and re-installed 4.0a.
    
    Absolutely no changes were made to the system between the board swaps
    and the only subsystem which is failing is NFS.  BIND, NIS, etc are all
    working.  We can't seem to get NFS to work.  If we attempt to mount
    NFSv2 some things work, but no NFSv3 stuff seems to work anymore.  We
    get timeout messages and don't understand why.  We are completely
    stumped as to what the problem was.  We have other alphas on site which
    are running the same OS software.  The console firmare is what the
    factory stated we had to be at for the 440 boards.
    
    As a last ditch effort to make sure that something wasn't missing, we
    re-installed 4.0a on the system and the problem persists.
    
    Can someone point me in a direction.  Without NFS, this machine is
    virtually useless at my ISV's site.  Especially since we are heavily
    automount NIS mapped.

If you don't have a valid netgroup file and your exporting using groups,
I could see why NFS mounts might not work.  Try getting rid of the error
and repost the results.

    We have 6 systems here which are set up the same way because of the way
    network resouources are layed out.  All of them except for the AS8400
    are working fine.  They encompass AS2100 5/250,300's, AS4100 5/400.
    
    I checked for /etc/netgroup and found it not to exist.  The mount -n
    command is what caused the error in the first place.  Touching the file
    didn't make the error go away.  And since we have never used this
    feature before and it doesn't happen on our other systems, I don't
    think it's the root fo the problem.
    
    We have asked field service to come back in and re-install the original
    boards to determine if that atleast fixes the problem temporarily.  But
    I need to get the new boards working....

    I checked out that QAR and discovered there was a fix in the file
    ip_var.h where ints where suppose to be longs.  Since my system worked
    at 8Gig, I booted it that way and all works.  I am in the process of
    testing 10 Gig.  I will CLD this since this is a serious limitation for
    our VLM benchmarking ..
