9676.0. "power management causes 100% cpu time for X server" by GYPOS3::EIBL (Reinhard Eibl @FKR, DTN 865-4027) Wed Apr 30 1997 10:54
Hello all,
a customer experienced a strange X11 problem which seems related to the power
management system.
He has applications which makes heavy use of the X server (about 50% CPU)
After one specific of these applications exits, the X server goes up to 99.7 %
CPU time and remains there (although nothing happens on the screen).
With dbx -k set on the X server process the only trace i get is thread_block,
what looks like an idle X server. But when he then runs any of his applications
he sees the very low display performance.
He gets a well performing system when he disables the X server power management
(xset -dpms). Any idea what's wrong here ?
System: as255/233, PowerStorm 4D20, 128 MB, D-UNIX 4.0B
We installed Open3D 4.3 and all D-UNIX 4.0B patches, but problem is still
there. The only thing what helps is xset -dpms
Thanks for help in advance.
/Reinhard
