9639.0. "ODBC Client for DUnix?" by AWECIM::HOWARD () Mon Apr 28 1997 14:22
I am posting this for a DUnix on Alpha customer. Any suggestions would
be appreciated.
Thanks,

We currently have two datastores, one running under Digital Unix (3.2g&4.0a),
the other under Windows NT. On the Unix side, we have our authentication
'databases' (password file, RADIUS validation and accounting software).
These are mostly flat-files, sometimes processed into a hashed lookup
for easier access. On the NT side, we have our customer billing data stored
in a Microsoft Access (soon to be Microsoft SQL Server) database.
We would like to combine these two datastores into one, preferably running
on the NT side. We would need some way to query the databases from our
Digital Unix boxes to continue providing service seamlessly. The
human interfaces to these databases will probably be Web-based.
We will also access the databases from programs written in Perl and C/C++.
We're currently experimenting with generating Web pages from CGI scripts
run from an NT box using ODBC drivers. These experiments have been
fairly successful. We're now looking for ODBC drivers (or something
similar) for us to use in programs under Unix to access the same
NT databases. We haven't been able to find the DEC Unix ODBC drivers. Any
assistance in solving this problem would be greatly appreciated.
We're looking for an ODBC client/library for UNIX. I was told that
since our existing data in under MS Access and will be converted to
MS SQL Server ( which we already have in-house), that SQL Server under
NT is where our data will be.
In our hunt for ODBC clients for DUnix, we've found clients for SunOS,
Solaris, AIX, and HP-UX to connect to MS SQL Server.

| I also received an inquiry about ODBC drivers for D UNIX. Based on the
support matrix at : http://www.intersolv.com/products/odbc-matrix.htm,
It would appeqr there are NO ODBC drivers for D UNIX.
Does anyone know if anyone has plans to do this ?
Regards,
/ Kerry

Can someone post the DUNIX PM's name or mail me this info offline?
I also need to know if there are plans for Informix on Alpha DUNIX.
TIA,
/ Kerry
