Is it possible to access and upgrade disk firmware using SCU to drives connected to a PMAZC-AA on a TURBOCHANNEL adapter of a DEC 3000-800. Is it legal to connect a TLZ7L to a PMAZC-AA if so I would be grateful for the required revisions. regards tony melling

re: TLZ7L The base operating system doesn't have any support for media changers. As a sequential loader you can load the "next" tape by taking the one in the drive offline with the mt(1) command. For random access you need a product that offers this support; MRU or Networker. The MRU SPD probably requires 4BQx and later firmware revisions. The 4BQ family is for one model, and the 5xxx versions for the other vendor model; there were two. I think 5550 is the version on one of ours. I regularly use a TLZ7L connected to the built-in adapter of the DEC 3000 family. This is very similar to the PMAZx pair. | |||||

Actually I thought the DAT's were upgraded by means of a specially formatted tape that you simply insert into the drive. If the drive survives the update it spits the tape out in a couple of moments and you're done. The PMAZB and PMAZC adaptors use the same chip as the 400/500 and 600/800/900 respectively (NCR 53C94 and 53C96.) I don't recall any problems with scu's "download" command on these adaptors. I think the only time this was an issue was on HSZ's... -- Farrell [Posted by WWW Notes gateway] |
