The customer tries to use S3 864 video board on Digital UNIX V4.0, but can only use in the VGA mode. I told him to remove some comments in /etc/sysconfigtab and add following in the configuration file and reconfigure the kernel. controller svision0 at * slot ? vector svisionintr But he cannot seem to use with this setup. The customer asked me that the driver called "svision0" should be required in SRM console since the QVISION has a driver called "qvision0" in SRM. He is using an AlphaPC 64 (aka HPB) evaluation board. K. Suruga

9560.1 | 864 never suppported | NNTPD::"[email protected]" | Paul Grist | Mon Apr 21 1997 10:28 | 17 |
There was a test driver for the s3v864 which was created for development of the s3trio driver. In V4.0, a consious decision was made to downgrade it to just generic VGA because of the work needed to port to X11R6 and support newer versions of the s3trio64 card, which is the only s3 card Digital UNIX supports. The device driver was left in the event someone wanted to get the DDX (X server driver) running again. If you know of any serious business case for support 864, send me mail and I will be glad to pass it on to Product Management. Typically all that happens is someone had one from an NT box, and would like to see it work. Paul [Posted by WWW Notes gateway] | |||||

Thank you for info. At this point, there is no real business case to support this card. When it happens, I will contact the Product Manager. Thanks, K. Suruga |
