A customer is running Digital Unix 4.0a and DECsafe 1.4. After he installed 4.0a patches for both machines, he found that newly added users (using adduser) in one of the machines fail to login. No error messages are reported during the login. Telnet gives 'connection closed by foreign host' All the user accounts created before installing the patches can login successfully. We have checked auth.log but nothing special logged. Any suggestion for troubleshooting the case? -feynman [Posted by WWW Notes gateway]

How far through the login sequence did he get? Did he see the login prompt and the Password prompt? Or did it fail before then? You mention telnet. Does telnet -d give any more detail? What about rlogin or ftp? leon |
