9501.0. "DUNIX V4.0b - SNMP agent response error" by ZAPATA::DALLAVO (G.Alfredo Dall'Avo NSIS-Milan Italy) Tue Apr 15 1997 05:35

	Hi everybody.

At a cutomer site I got a problem related to the interaction
between Polycenter Manager on Netview and the extensible SNMP
	agent shipped with DUNIX V4.0b.

The autodiscovery feature of Netview can't correctly identify
the network configuration (net controllers + IP address + net mask)
of the DUNIX node running the V4.0b.

The sympton the customer see is an incorrect IP map generated
	by Netview.

Moreover if we do an SNMP interrogation (nmdemandpoll nodename)
to force Netview to collect all the data it needs to identify the
	node we get this error:

	....
	...

date	Get ARP table for discovering secondary interfaces
date SNMP response error: expect ASN type 64, received ASN type 4

	...

	date	Get ARP table
date SNMP response error: expect ASN type 64, received ASN type 4

	...

and when we look for the DUNIX40b node record into the Netview
object database we see that the net mask is marked <Unknown>:

	Anyone can help me?

This note is cross-posted into the Netview notes file.

I forgot to say that I did a significant test.

I copyed the SNMP agent shipped with DUNIX V3.2C (/usr/sbin/snmpd)
	on a DUNIX V4.0B system and I did a /sbin/init.d/snmpd stop + start.

After that Netview managed correctly that node.

Since I'll need to know exactly what NetView is polling
for, it'll be easier to work this on in the
NetView conference.
