9459.0. "Does it support 8 bit file transfer" by HGOSPS::MASCOTTANG () Thu Apr 10 1997 00:17

My customer would like to ask whether supporting 8 bits transfer

    1) TIP or CU file transfer
    2) UUCP file transfer
    3) GETTY support 8 bits.

Would anyone give me a piece of advice. Any advice should appreciated.

I'm not sure about 1) or 2), although my guess is that it is possible.
Internationalized versions of these ought to be able to handle 8 bit
transfers, but I'm not 100% sure that these interfaces are internationalized
because they are so old.

FTP would allow 8 bit file transfers, especially if you set the copy mode
to BINARY (or I).

GETTY would certainly support 8 bit mode, at least if you used
an internationalized version of getty. On the Associated Products CD
that is available with Digital UNIX, we have a set of WORLDWIDE subsets
that could provide what your customer is looking for. Does your customer
do multilingual work, or are they an international company? If so, they
might want to look into these capabilities.

Send me mail, quarry::masinick or [email protected] if you want to
discuss any of this. If I don't know all the answers, I work with many
others that do know the details and the answers.
