9450.0. "NFS V3 + FDDI + cp BIG file fails" by SWETSC::HAGLUND () Wed Apr 09 1997 11:32
Hello!
A customer has questions copying (with cp(1)) big files (1-2 GB) to a NFS
filesystem. When he tries that the client will start to page/swap out most of
the important stuff like the Xserver and so on, until the machine is useless
and has to be rebooted.
The server and the client is on a FDDI ring. The server is a DEC 3000-M900
with prestoserve exporting AdvFS disks. FDDI module is PMAF-FA. The
client is also a 3000-M900 with a PMAF-FA but no AdvFS or prestoserve.
Client memory size is 160 MB and it has 635 MB swap.
Firmware on both machines are SRM V6.1 and both machines are running DU V3.2G.
No problem sitting on the client and copy a file from the server to the client.
Big problem sitting on the client and copying a file (1-2 GB) TO the exported
NFS disk on the server. The clients UBC has been reduced to 60% but that
didn't help.
No problems using ftp. It looks like the problem has to do with NFS.
NFS V3 is beeing used.
Any suggestions?
Regards,
Tomas Haglund
