G'day I've posted this note in unix_printing as well, but it looks like it is more than a printing issue. I have a customer running DU3.2B and we are trying to set up a serial printer. We've had no problems setting the printer up but we can not get print jobs to stay in the queue if the printer is turned off. ie When printer is offline, not connected or turned off, any printjobs sent there vanish after some time. lpstat command shows " no entries". Is this normal behaviour for 3.2? I can fix it under 4.0 with the stty -crtscts option but this doesn't help me with 3.2 Also I can't seem to change the settings on ixon and clocal. Is this normal? This is the printcap I am usingser|lp8:\ :af=/usr/adm/lp8acct:\ :br#9600:\ :ct=dev:\ :fc#0177777:\ :fs#024:\ :lf=/usr/adm/lp8err:\ :lp=/dev/tty00:\ :mx#0:\ :pl#66:\ :pw#80:\ :rw:\ :sd=/usr/spool/lpd8:\ :xc#0:\ :xf=/usr/lbin/xf:\ :xs#000400: and these are the stty setting, speed 9600 baud; 0 rows; 0 columns erase = ^H; werase <undef>; kill = ^U; intr = ^C; quit = ^\; susp = ^Z dsusp <undef>; eof = ^D; eol <undef>; eol2 <undef>; stop = ^S start = ^Q; lnext <undef>; discard <undef>; reprint <undef>; status <undef> time = 0; min = 1 -parenb -parodd cs8 -cstopb -hupcl cread clocal -ignbrk brkint -ignpar -parmrk -inpck -istrip -inlcr -igncr icrnl -iuclc ixon -ixany -ixoff -imaxbel isig icanon -xcase echo -echoe -echok -echonl -noflsh -mdmbuf -nohang -tostop -echoctl -echoprt -echoke -altwerase -iexten -nokerninfo opost -olcuc onlcr -ocrnl -onocr -onlret -ofill -ofdel tabs -onoeot # Thanks Adrian [Posted by WWW Notes gateway]

Hi, In as much as we support printers locally, first we have to note that: 1) They are not inherently fast, 2) Not cost effective to keep on supporting at a complexity very hard to understand and costly to keep those skills updated. 3) Good olden days serial printers are a costly/necessary device I bet the resources allocated for them to make run was a good business decision. Of late its not so much fun/wise to invest resources in figuring out the low level stuff you are looking for. Note this is all my personal openions. Regards Sri [Posted by WWW Notes gateway] |
