9361.0. "DECThread Patches in 4.x" by NETRIX::"[email protected]" (Richard Quan) Wed Apr 02 1997 09:52

Melbourne University are giving me a hard time on what a botch 4.x is with a
number of their applications being broken in moving from 3.x to 4.x. Of
particular
interest to them are problems arising in DECThreads. While I am compiling a
formal list
from them is there any patches for known problems in DECThreads and any
details on where
I can source them. Below is an extract of some of the problems that they are
using as
examples:

=====
Richard,
I am collecting the info, but for a start here are the problems that we
have encountered:

With Application PMDF we must run 4.0A as they have said there are problems
with 4.0B DEC Threads code. Also, with PMDF and out Library system the
clock seems to be 3600 seconds behind the epoch. This stops mail being
delivered!! PMDF sent us some code to test who is returning the incorrect
value and I will get the code once Anne comes back from sick leave.

Another example is repquota command:
As root:

/usr/sbin/repquota -a | more
  output deleted

then hit q to exit more and the following message

DECthreads Last Chance handler: thread 1 exiting on status exception
0x177db013
Exception: Broken pipe (dce / thd)
ksh: 11115 Resources lost(coredump)

Richard,
We are running Digital Unix 4.0A on a 4100 platform. We were originally
running 4.0B but due to problems with DECThreads and PMDF we had to go back
to 4.0A. One of the programs that we use a lot is monitor. This worked on
4.0B but core dumps on 4.0A. I got the new version from gatekeeper and
recompiled it under DUNIX 4.0A. Still the same problem:

# uname -a
OSF1 cassius.its.unimelb.edu.au V4.0 464 alpha
# ./monitor
Memory fault(coredump)

I assume that there need to be a version for 4.0A, there is a makefile for
version 4.0 which works on 4.0B and perhaps 4.0.

There are V4.0, V4.0a and V4.0b patches for DECthreads.
More on the way. Tech support people know where to get
    patches, right?
