9315.1 | the s3trio64 replacement card | NETRIX::"[email protected]" | Paul Grist | Fri Apr 04 1997 15:30 | 24 |
| The PB2GA-JC and PB2GA-JD are the s3trio64 V+ graphics
options (1Mb and 2Mb respectively). It is the
replacement card for the vision 330 (S3trio64) and
essentially identical to it. The s3trio card is
a simple 2D SVGA card, 256 colors, and can not
do multiscreen.
The PBXGB-AA is the Digital TGA2 graphics option,
the PowerStorm 3D30. It is a much faster 2D card
and an entry-level 3D card (requires Open3D kit).
Its more expensive and faster, 3 can be configured
in the same system.

9315.2 | Need V4.0B | NETRIX::"[email protected]" | Paul | Fri Apr 04 1997 15:34 | 8 |
| Sorry, forgot to state that V4.0b is required
to run the s3trio V+ card, a hardware incompatibility
caused the need for software changes.
TGA2 is supported on V4.0a

9315.3 | Works for Unix below 4.0 ? | ZPOVC::CSNAQS | | Mon Apr 28 1997 01:24 | 10 |
| Hi,
It is possible for the PB2GA-JC and PB2GA-JD be supported on Digital
Unix 3.2c and above. We have quite a lot of customers running below
Digital Unix 4.0. Is there a way that we can make it work on version that is
below 4.0 ?
Will these garphic card work on OpenVMS ? Do they need any drivers ?
Thanks

9315.4 | technically, yes. | MAYNRD::MCCARTNEY | | Tue Apr 29 1997 16:03 | 10 |
| It is possible, but it will take some work. To justify the work we need
a business requirement to be generated by a platform group that wants this
supported. This has come up for discussion before. We (the X server folks)
told the platform (lowend server) group that we would do the engineering work
needed but we would need them to do all qualification and testing work. When
they were asked to do that, they dropped the requirement.
So, technically, it can be done, but it has not happened to date.
