9293.0. "V4.0C for what ...station?" by VIRGIN::SUTTER (Who are you ??? - I'm BATMAN !!!) Wed Mar 26 1997 05:56

Will the AlphaStation 450/433 be a modified
"DIGITAL Personal Workstation 433a"?

If yes, what are the modifications to it if any?

We have names such as Alpha XL, Dream Machine,
DIGITAL Personal Workstation, AlphaStation apparently
meaning the same thing ....

I know that V4.0C nor the HW is out yet but I guess
it will be soon and a little head start for us
techies could not hurt ... ;-)

Arnold

You are speaking about the "Personal Workstation 433a". There is no
AlphaStation 450/433. I suggest you get a marketing brochure which will
show the product line, and how they fit.... I would say that all the
different names of workstations over the years has indeed confused many
    people.

There will be a "Personal Workstation 433au", as well as a "500au"
This will be a packaged system that is bundled to run Digital UNIX 4.0c.
If you have an existing "Personal Workstation 433a", there
are differences you need to be aware of:

Existing boxes come with Adaptec 2940 Controller, not supported by DU.
Existing boxes may have an unsupported graphic card. Matrox, Accell etc.
Existing boxes may have a keyboard with Windows95 Keys that screws up
key mappings. I heard a recently shipping keyboard may have changed
    this.

Other than this these machines are the same. There will be an internal
upgrade part number for internal folks who want to do the upgrade, it
includes what you need to upgrade, part is SN-PBXBA-NA. This will not be
    available to customers.

For more info contact the Workstation product group, workstation sales
folks or post this in the Alphastation notes conference.

Thank's for your detailed explanation. This really helps clarifying things.

Then I'm sure the Release notes that come with V4.0C will eventually use
the correct name "Personal Workstation 433au" too vs. the current
"AlphaStation 450/433" name.
