9265.0. "How to find out the correct nb. of OSF-BASE units?" by MUNICH::CUZUM () Mon Mar 24 1997 09:20

How do I know how many units I need for OSF-BASE?

I have a customer who got an OSF-BASE-PAK of 400 Units for an Alpha
Server 4100 with 4 CPUs. That was definitely not enough. Since the option
MOD_UNITS was given, I adviced him to increase the units. I guessed 1500
should be enough, and if it wasn't, he should continue increasing the
units. It worked with 1500 Units, but now the customer wants a correct
statement about the exact number of units his system requires. Can
anyone tell me, how one can find out the correct/exact number of units
for OSF_BASE?

Regards,

Corina

Corina,

If you have WWW access you can do the following:

Go to:

	http://healey.zk3.dec.com/hw_query

Select: Platform Query

Enter system type: Alphaserver 4100

Click under the "More Details" column

In the detailed table at the bottom click under LURT info to get the
information you are looking for. You can do this for any platform.

RE: .0

Corina,

The correct number of units is 700. That is 400 for the first CPU plus 100 for
each of the 3 added CPUs.

The 400 unit PAK for OSF-BASE is for the system with 1 CPU. Each of the
additional CPUs should have come with an SMP extension license represented
by a 100 unit PAK for OSF-BASE. Registering all 4 PAKs would give a combined
total of 700 units.

Did the customer not get the SMP extension licenses?

Thanks for the quick help. It seems that the customer hasn't got
    the SMP licenses.
