Hi, folks, a customer asks why he can't set a password which doesn't contain uppercase letters. He runs V3.2 and complains about the man pages of "passwd", where DIGITAL only says: "Each password must have at least six characters and can include digits, symbols, and the letters of your alphabet. It is strongly suggested that you include unusual punctuation, control characters, or digits in your password. Use of only lowercase letters is discouraged. If you enter more than eight characters when creating a password, the passwd command ignores any characters after the eighth." "It is strongly recommended" does not mean that it's interdicted to do it otherwise. (?) The customer works with BASE security and wants to know if he has any chance of using passwords without uppercase letters. Can anyone help me with this? Regards, Corina

Forgot: If your customer doesn't accept .1, it is pretty straightforward to take crypt(3) and build the password fields from own program... -jari |
