Hello,
I would like to inquire about printer driver support on Digital Unix
version 3.2G.
Currently we have a customer who has a Fujistu English/Chinese line
printer connected to the Alphaserver running Digital Unix 3.2G. I have
reviewed the SOC (Nov 1996 edition, page 7.4) that printer LG12plus
support different graphics protocols including EPSON ESC P, ANSI/Sixel,
etc. And from the DU 3.2G SPD, it appears that there is support for
LG12 printer.
I have the following queries :
1. Where can I find the printer driver for LG12plus or LG12 (if it is
the same as LG12plus in terms of graphics protocols support) ?
2. How can we activate this driver in Digital Unix 3.2G ?
3. How do we set the printer driver to use a particular graphics
protocol such as EPSON ESC P ?
Please advise.
Best regards
Chris

Support for the lg12+ printer will be coming out in a future release of Digital UNIX. If nothing changes I expect it will be available in V4.0d. However, to maintain backwards compatibility the filter created for the lg12+ printer is a DEC ANSI filter not Epson ESC-P. The purpose of a print filter is to format UNIX text files for printing. Pre-formatted files do not require the use of a filter. From your questions it sounds as if the customer will be printing pre-formatted files. If so, I suggest using the command `lpr -x' to print the file, or specify the /usr/lbin/xf filter as the input IF filter. | |||||
