9221.0. "lpd in U state to lat printer." by EVTAI1::WENDLING (Gerard WENDLING @ZTO) Wed Mar 19 1997 03:58

    Hello ,

I have un problem with lpd procees associated with a print job
to a KYOCERA FS1600+ printer going randomly in U state .( two times a
    week )

The printer has a network card , we use lat and they are two entry's
in the printcap , one for PC printing via PATHWORKS and one for unix
application printing . Both entry's use now the same lock file.

The only way to make it work again is to re-boot the system.
    I tried a " #cp /etc/group /dev/tty0f " ( tty0f in the lat application
port mapped to the KYOCERA ) and my process was also blocked in
uninterruptible state . After defining another tty to the printer i
    could print a file ...

Lat counters showed 22 " Bad circuit messages " on the KYO.

    Dunix 3.2G ( alpha 2100 )
    Pathworks 5.0G
    KYO EcoLINK version 05.10.

    Thank's in advance.

Does the LAT connection to tty0f still exist?
    # latcp -d -P -ptty0f

If this returns "Port is not defined" then something has broken the
connection betwen tty0f and the printer.

Does your printer hav a log file? (lf entry in /etc/printcap)
    Anything in /var/adm/syslog.dated/DATE/lpr.log ?
See if there are any interesting messages in these files.

    Hope this helps
