| Sorry. Let me be a little clearer. I'm aware of the location on the
system of the services file.
What I wanted to know was whether or not there is a more up to date
version maintained that might have more ports listed.
Actually I think what I'm looking for may be found in
/etc/join/dhcptags.

9192.3 | No ports in dhcptags, just tags | NETRIX::"[email protected]" | Brian Haley | Fri Mar 14 1997 15:10 | 17 |
| Hi,
/etc/dhcptags contains "tags" or options for joind. These are assigned
by the IANA, see http://www.isi.edu/div7/iana/descript.html and click
on "BOOTP and DHCP Parameters" to see the full list.
Microsoft seems to have pirated some in the reserved range without
registering them (234, 201), but 50 is a straight BOOTP IP address
request. You might have disabled BOOTP compatibility and that's
why these aren't getting serviced.
"Real" tags are from 1-254, V4.0 should have 1-77 plus a few out of that
range for JOIN. If you accidentally removed your file you should be
able to copy it from the CD. I can mail you one if you're really stuck.

The most up to date list of services (ie. registered TCP and
UDP ports) is to go to the IANA home page (http://www.isi.edu/)
which is the Internet authority that is the official registry
(and for much more than just port numbers). The port numbers
are in:
ftp://ftp.isi.edu/in-notes/iana/assignments/port-numbers
which except for some commentary at the top, is in the same
format as /etc/services (someone should suggest to them to
put a # in front of each of the commentary lines at the top
so one could just fetch the file and not have to edit it :-).

| RE: .3 Thanks very much for the added info and the offer to cpy or
mail the file, but I do have the supplied version.
RE:.4 Thanks and I'll check the official source. If there's room for
comment, I'll pass yours along.
