Hi,
Have two systems in a dms environment:
DMU Server:
AServer 4100 4/400, DU 4.0a, FW Rev. v3.0, palcode 1.21.
DMU Client:
Decstation 3600, DU 4.0a environment, ZLX-M1 graphics card (PMAGC-AA),
FW Rev. v6.9.
Client is booting well, but cde is not startet.
Same error message like in note 8390 in digital_unix conference:
DMU Client (nntk14):
------------------
# more /var/X11/xdm/xdm-errors (also in /usr/var/dt/Xerrors)
xdm error (pid 6657): error 48 binding socket address 177
Fatal server error:
Failed to establish all listening sockets
xdm error (pid 915): server unexpectedly died
xdm error (pid 915): Server for display :0 can't be started, session disabled
#
Does somebody has a clue what is causing this error message ?
There was no solution in note 8390 and I haven't got enough
knowledge about cde and X to figure out what is going on.
This note is also xposted in cde conference.
Please help me,
Ludwig.

9086.1 | Xserver.conf file was empty | NETRIX::"[email protected]" | Ludwig Dallmeyr | Tue Mar 11 1997 08:38 | 11 |
| Hi,
The cause for CDE not coming up was an empty 'Xserver.conf' file
at the client side. I don't know, why this file was empty, but after
copying a prototype to 'Xserver.conf' everything works fine and
CDE is starting.
Ciaou,
Ludwig.
