9078.0. "Digital UNIX 4.0a & Fore PCA-200E ATM adapter?" by TENNIS::KAM (AltaVista Software 714/261-4133 DTN 535.4133) Fri Mar 07 1997 22:17

We're trying to load 3 AltaVista Firewalls using the Fore ATM PCI
adapter. We have the following configuration:

      AlphaStation 500 333 Mhz
      Digital UNIX 4.0b (pre-installed)
      Fore PCA-200E ATM Adapter

To be installed later: AltaVista Firewall 2.1

The systems were loaded with 4.0b and the ATM cards appeared to be
working fine. Since the AltaVista Firewall 2.1 doesn't support 4.0b
we had to re-install the Operating System e.g., 4.0a.

Since re-install with 4.a, our problem(s) are that the ATM Cards are
intermittent. Sometimes they work and sometimes they don't. On one
system, where they do not operate under 4.0a, however, if we do the
following the card will start functioning:

       /usr/sbin/init.d/foreatm stop
       /usr/sbin/init.d/foreatm start

Any ideas would be appreciated. We're also searching for some patches.

The Fore documentation indicates the PCA-200E is supported under
Digital UNIX 4.0 and the driver version is 4.0.2

       Regards,

On the surface this seems to be a FORE problem. (the FORE ATM
software does not use any of the ATM infrastructure in the base
operating system). Of course more data map prove the above
    hypothesis wrong.
