| Please upgrade the firmware for the customer's DEFPA to the latest
(Rev 4.3). If this does not help, see if the PFI chip on the board
is a pass 2 chip (near PCI connector, revision should end in -02
instead of -01). This should fix the customer's problem if the
problem is with the FDDI adapter.

| Hi Julie,
We haven't been able to figure out what you meant by upgrade the
DEFPA to 4.3 firmware. I can't find any such version of firmware for
this card. Can you provide a pointer?

| The latest DEFPA firmware revision is V3.1. It is released
electronically and is available at KALI::PCDRIVERS:[FDDI.DEFPA.RELEASE]
file name DECFW310.ZIP.
My apologies for any confusion.

please excuse my ignorance.
After unzipping the file, I find that there is a decblast.exe utility
good for DOS, along with some firmware files labeled *.310.
Is the dfxaa.310 firmware file that comes out of this loadable
by anything under dunix, or do you do it from the console firmware
utility on the firmware cdrom?
software guy thats highly confused,

| Hello,
I tried the DEFPA f/w update w/Floppys on R2 after renameing
the firmware files like ARC wanted them (dfxaa_fw) and putting a
copy in a \OPTIONS directory. - Still didn't work.
Lucky coincidence ! Tom Garry recieved a V3.9 Alpha F/W
CD in San Francisco. We had it couriered over so we could update
D2 at the customers earliest convience.
They decided to update the DEFPA f/w useing the V3.9 CD while we
waited for the system to recontruct a couple of raidsets.
D2 was rebooted, and the reconstruct finished around 18:30.
So we were back up w/the new Ver 3.1 Defpa f/w.
I also checked the DEFPA board for the Pass -02
chip Julie mentioned in .1. The board had 2 large chips
next to the PCI connector - 21-31970-02 and 21-40779-01. Other than
the part numbers, I didn't see anything about pass -02. The 21-40779
did have some ECO work, a wire was run between a couple pins...
Even Less Lucky - I logged in to check D2 and saw that it is still
getting the Link-Reset errors.
