Hello,
I have looked through the UNIX 4.0B release notes and NIS
guide, and cannot find a figure for the maximum number of user-id/passwords
that can be held in Digital UNIX. Could anyone who knows of a limit
please answer this note. I'm not after the number of logins allowed,
but the size of the passwd or yppasswd file.
Thanks in advance,
Andrew

I don't think that there is an explicit maximum number of entries in the /etc/passwd or yppasswd file below the maximum number of uids supported. But, based on note 8971, there does appear to be a practical limit because of problems with dbm not being able to handle large databases. [Posted by WWW Notes gateway] | |||||
