I ran timezone as root. Change it to Central Time, but the
'date' still shows the original timezone. Reboot doesn't change
anything. Seems to me 'timezone' doesn't work. Any suggestions?

| Hi,
The timezone (8) page I believe is for System V. You really want to look
at tht timezone (3) man page. Basically it will tell you to change the
soft link in /etc/zoneinfo. An excerpt:
Setting Timezone Information
The /etc/zoneinfo/localtime link can be changed by the system administrator
to any file in the /etc/zoneinfo directory.
For example, to change the default system timezone to Canada's Atlantic
time zone, enter the following as superuser:
# ln -s /etc/zoneinfo/Canada/Atlantic /etc/zoneinfo/localtime
-Brian

useful. See /etc/zoneinfo/source/northamerica for details.

The main "feature" of the US/East-Indiana timezone is that it observes
Eastern Standard Time year-round (does not switch to/from Daylight time).
