8961.0. "NFS and make preformacne problems" by AUSS::BELL (Caritas Patiens est) Tue Feb 25 1997 17:32
We have a problem with the performance of a large system build, using
'make' on a NFS mounted file system, network is FDDI.
Digital UNIX V3.2G
During the make nfs is showing about 50 packets per second, for a file
copy it can exceed 500 per second.
File locking has been turned off.
The nfs server is an older machine with many and large disks, and
relatively little memory, while the client machines are faster with
more memory, but less capacity for more disks. So running 'make' on the
server is not a viable option.
Tuning recommendations have been followed including syscheck.
Any suggestions?
Peter.
