8956.0. "ar problem in DU 4.0B" by VNASWS::HAUSB (Its a hard life in the mountains) Tue Feb 25 1997 11:29

A customer reported this problem:

If you create an archive in DU 4.0B and want to delete or extract a
file out of this archive and its filename is longer than 13 characters
it does not find the file and/or corrupts the whole archive.

I talked to the maintainer, and he said it looks like a fix for another
problem has introduced a bug.

If you need a fix for a customer, you should file an IPMT asap.

    Maybe a related problem-

The ISV I work with has found that he can't delete an object from
an archive with "ar -d". It always complains that it can't find
the object specified. I've verified this on 4.0A and 4.0B.

Could be, although I could not duplicate it with my simple tests on V4.0B.
Please file a QAR so that the ar maintainer (that's not me) will get to
see it...

Could be related to the size of archive. I'll get a reproducer and
file a QAR as soon as possible.

The work around was to just extract everything and create a new
archive with everything except the object that we wanted to delete
    in the first place.
