I have a customer that has SUN servers and these servers are the NIS servers for clients that are both Sun workstations and Alphaworkstation (AS500). The alphaworkstations are running DU 4.0a and 4.0b... My qestion is "Can alphaworkstion be a client when the SUN server (master) is configured with NIS Plus?" If the servers are just straight NIS I know the alphaworkstations will work as clients in this environment... But I need to know if we (Digital) support "NIS Plus" environments... as clients of course. Rochelle

If memory serves, NIS+ servers can service NIS clients. | |||||

NIS+ is advertised as being backward compatible with NIS clients. Certain NIS+ features (like NIS+ security) won't work with the older clients. But according to the white paper I read, the NIS clients should work correctly. Mike |
