8750.0. "Pro-engineer rotate of small model starts very slowly on dunix v4.0 -log 99201" by finder.uvo.dec.com::COFFEYJ (La Feline Flooz - a unix cat) Fri Feb 07 1997 06:39

I have a call from Performance Graphics about the behaviour
of their application, Pro-engineer, on digital unix v4.0.

When rotating a small model it behaves, in their words,
as if it's on elastic, once it has started rotating the
model it's ok but there is a long time lag to start the rotation.

In this case it's running on a 5000-400 with a powerstorm-4d50t
graphics card, they believe it to be digital unix related
rather than h/w. On a system running NT the symptoms
are not displayed.

The main reason for this note to start with is that apparently
"someone in digital" is already aware of this problem and
was working on it, being loath to duplicate the effort
that would be involved in troubleshooting this I'm trying
to identify that "someone". The technical director of the
3rd party who might know some more is unavailable for a
while but the reporting engineer says he believes it was
being dealt with as an issue in relation to running
mechanical modelling packages. The behaviour is also
seen on SDRC's Ideas package.

If anyone has come across this before please let me know!

Also, of course, any suggestions gratefully appreciated.

Thanks

8750.1Sounds like a known problem in Pro/EWIBBIN::NOYCEPulling weeds, pickin' stonesFri Feb 07 1997 08:455
See ALLVAX::PRO_ENGINEER note 412.

From the discussion, it sounds like the problem is
in PTC's Pro/E code, and George Chaltas from Digital
is working with them to get it fixed.

3D X windows support (openGL etc) and hardware
support (driver/DDX) for the powerstorm cards
comes from the Open3D layered product. If you haven't
already, post the note in bsgdev::open3d notes conference.

If you need contact information, send me mail,

Paul
