8736.0. "DU 4.0A creating token ring station bug" by FREE::DOUCET () Thu Feb 06 1997 11:48

To whom it may concern,

I have notice a problem with Digital unix version 4.0A with creating
a token ring station using ncl. This problem does not exist on DU 3.2C
or DU 4.0. using the same hardware. I have tried using two versions of
DECnet on DU 4.0A (DNA4.0 and DNA4.0A) it looks like a DU 4.0A problem
I also have to (ifconfig tra0 up) to make the token ring availible once
DU 4.0A is fully booted

Regards,

Ron Doucet (IBM INERCONNECT PRODUCTS)

Hi,

Here's a few things I'd try (you might have already):

1. Run the ECU and make sure the media type for the board is set correctly,
either UTP or STP. Having the wrong one = problems.

2. Run one of the DU network setup utilities (not DECnet's ncl), either
netconfig or netsetup, that's how we setup our test environment.
I say this because your netstat counters showed the board hadn't
seen any action, this is "normal" output:

Name Mtu Network Address Ipkts Ierrs Opkts Oerrs
Coll
tra0 4092 <Link> 00:00:93:c8:9b:cd 425031 0 425031 0
   0
tra0 4092 DLI none 425031 0 425031 0
   0
tra0 4092 qa-tokenring-net albacoretr 425031 0 425031 0
   0

3. Post a note in the DECnet conference `cause ncl doesn't ship with DU :-(
