I can'yt seem to get a definite answer anywhere. QUESTION: What is the MINIMUM UNIX release needed for 8400 5/440 CPUs? Is it 3.2d-1,3.2d-2, 3.2g??

According to: http://healey.zk3.dec.com/hw_query The answer is V3.2B. Talking with the responsible engineer here in UEG, the system will work and is supported on V3.2B. The hardware group recommends V3.2D. V3.2G is fine as well. Mark Parenti | |||||

If you want the best possible performance, you should use a version of UNIX which is recent enough to correctly identify the system as an EV56, and versions of compilers/etc that are recent enough to know what to do with a system that reports itself as ev56. That is, you need V4.0B and the December SW CD. Earlier software may leave a few percent of performance on the table. |
