G'day all I have a customer how is trying to set up system 5 printing to a HP4m+ . His application wants to use lp -o to set up the page size and orientation. From what I have read SVE is not able to use the -o option to postscript printers. My question is how can we set up System 5 printing so that it talks pcl to the printer. Regards Kym Schwarz Unix support CSC Sydney cross posted to UNIX_PRINTING.

I think the hplaserof print filter is for PCL printers. The laserjet 4M printer is a postscript printer, so there may be a printer setup change required to tell the printer to behave as a PCL printer, this would be printer specific. With the printer properly setup configure SVE printing with lpadmin. For example: lpadmin -Ihplaserof -Thp4M [other options if desired] this tells the SVE print subsystem to use the hplaserof filter, which hopefully talks HP PCL. That should do it, but again I can't be sure how this will behave with the lp -o command since we've never worked with PCL. - Walt |
