The only routing protocols in the spd are rip and egp, but then the
spd doesn't mention that http etc can be run either

That's because Digital UNIX does *not* support HTTP.
The SPD is a legal document. It has what's supported.
You can run other software on top of Digital UNIX (like a
http server, other routing protocols, etc), but that's
a different question than what you asked in .0.

OSPF V2
DVMRP (support via mrouted)
are supported routine protocols.
