Has anyone see the old problem of init not cleaning up utmp after logging out occuring again in V4.0? (I know this was a problem under older versions and it had patches.) My customer sees this daily. Most of his users telnet in. A 'finger user' will show 5 occurances of the user when the users is only logged in once. While 'w' and 'who' only show his current login. So is this a problem with finger not reading utmp properly, or with init not cleaning up properly? % finger amurphy Login name: amurphy In real life: Asa Murphy Phone: 6216309 Directory: /u1/amurphy Shell: /bin/csh On since Jan 29 09:47:41 3 hours 40 minutes Idle Time on ttype from MISX6.BPA.ARIZONA.EDU:0.0 On since Jan 28 12:07:07 2 hours 7 minutes Idle Time on On since Jan 28 13:05:13 2 hours 7 minutes Idle Time on On since Jan 28 13:32:04 2 hours 7 minutes Idle Time on On since Jan 29 14:26:53 2 hours 7 minutes Idle Time on No Plan. % w|grep amurphy amurphy pe MISX6.BPA.ARIZON 09:47 3:41 - % who|grep amurphy amurphy ttype Jan 29 09:47 Thanks, janet

utmp mentions in the 4.0 patch kit are: PROBLEM: (CLD ISO100270) (Patch ID: OSF400CDE-004) ******** Users appear to be logged in when they are not because CDE dtterm sometimes doesn't reset the utmp entry on exit. PROBLEM: (BRO100738) (Patch ID: OSF400-080) ******** When testing applications on a BSD-style device such as /dev/tty0h, the ttyslot function returns a number matching the index into the /var/adm/utmp file. However, when running the same program on an SVR4-style device such as /dev/lat/622, the ttyslot function always returns zero. The problem can be indentified easily by running the sample test program included here. |
