Another one of this never ending topic. A partner has a SUN environment with on AS600 and an HP workstation. NIS server is a Sun OS 4.2 system. DU 4.0 was set up as NIS client with the recommended security options -s and -S. Because the server ran enhanced security the DU system was also configured to enhanced security. The symptoms then were that - dxaccounts showed all NIS accounts as locked. Unlocking them was not possible - changing yp passwords with yppaswd worked fine - there was no /tcb/files/auth.db created - the NIS server does not know of prpasswd What we did now was to generate local - secure - passwords using the passwd command. Two questions: 1. Does this configuration with SUN OS 4.2 work at all? 2. If yes, what did we do wrong? Any hints welcome PS: I checked other notes already but found nothing appropriate.

Digital UNIX Enhanced Security over NIS is not compatible with anybody. Industry standards are just starting to be developed in this area. Since we've been distributing our Enhanced Security databases via NIS for years, obviously we had to make up our own way of doing things. Distributing Digital UNIX Enhanced Security databases with NIS will only work if all of the systems are Digital UNIX and all are running Enhanced Security. [Posted by WWW Notes gateway] |
