Apologies if this has been covered before, but a search didn't turn up anything
useful.
The Digital Unix V4.0B kit comes with a "Documentation Overview" book. This
book lists all the available Unix books, and kits of books, and their part
numbers. The part number for the "Digital Unix Full Documentation Set" is
QA-MT4AP-GZ, and we can obtain pricing info, etc, for this. However, when we
try and order this part, the internal ordering system says it doesn't actually
exist and to use a different part number, QA-MT4AA-GZ, instead.
This different part number claims to be a "DEC OSF1 Alpha Full Doc Set". Apart
from the part number not being that listed in the Documentation Overview book, I
am slightly suspect about the "DEC OSF1" in the title - this implies it is the
doc set for an older version of the product.
However, the MT4AA part number is the one listed on the V4.0B documentation
poster, with MT4AP being on another poster I have that doesn't state a version.
What we want is the full doc set for Digital Unix V4, that is fully up to date
for that version of the operating system. We don't want older DEC OSF1 books
that might probably be OK some of the time.
So: which is the correct part number for the books that we want please? I
suspect that MT4AA probably is the correct number, in which case please update
the name of this doc kit to say "Digital Unix" rather than "DEC OSF1", to remove
the confusion.

| Greetings!
In the past, when I've ordered a "Full Doc Set" part number (or a specific
"Sub-kit") part number, I've always gotten the latest and greatest book(s) in
that kit. My guess is that by ordering the "Digital Unix Full Documentation
Set" part number you will (currently) get mostly V4.0 books since these mostly
didn't change for the V4.0a or V4.0b releases (the notable exception being the
actual manuals in the "Release Books sub-kit" specific to V4.0a and V4.0b).
At most, I suspect you will need to order the Full V4.0 doc set and then add
the "doc upgrade kits" for V4.0a and V4.0b.
You might want to call Jane Brown & company directly at DTN: 264-3729. She
has been very helpful to me in the past in determinig exactly what bits & pieces
are in what doc set and has even helped me get complete back-rev doc sets when
needed, cheers...

| The full documentation set has always had the part number QA-MT4AA-GZ.
When Version 4.0 began shipping, that kit was packaged with the
Version 3.2G kit. To ensure that customers received the correct
doc set for the version they ordered, the doc set for Version 4.0
was renumbered.
When we stopped shipping the combined V3.2G/4.0 kit in about October,
the part numbers for the doc kits reverted back to their traditional
numbers. So now, anyone ordering doc kits by either the "new" or
traditional part numbers will get the must current version.
Regarding the "DEC OSF/1 name mentioned in .0, that's left over from
the old days. Maybe the name in the database can be changed to "Digital
UNIX" (or DIGITAL UNIX as it's now named), but it doesn't affect the
product being shipped.
Two other things:
o The version 4.0A and 4.0B doc sets changed in a few small ways, as will
the Version 4.0D set.
o The "Documentation Overview, Glossary and Master Index" generally
changes only with major releases, so it doesn't reflect changes in
subsequent smaller releases. The current Documentation Map poster
reflects the changes in the doc sets through Version 4.0B.
