8567.0. "Adding a new KZPSA" by DYOSW5::WILDER (Does virtual reality get swapped?) Thu Jan 23 1997 20:35

Customer has a production system. They need to add another KZPSA
controller onto their 8400 running DUNIX V4.0a. The PCI bus has some
open slots (like 3, and 9). What is the correct way to add the new
controller WITHOUT changing any of the rz numbers (all the external
disks are LSM volumes)? What are the correct steps and in what
    sequence?

    Thanks,

I think the correct step WAS to leave the empty space at the end for
    future expansion.

I think you are facing a lot of shuffling!
8567.2Edit the config fileTMCUKA::ROWELLPaul Rowell @BBPFri Jan 24 1997 14:3523
Edit the kernel to have the correct scsi bus no:

Decide which slot you wish to use in the PCI and then copy a section of
the kernel config file that has an existing scsi/kzpsa.

Say you have scsi0,scsi1,scsi2,scsi3 already and you want to add the
controller between scsi2 and scsi3. Copy the entry for scsi3 and insert
before the scsi3 then change the pza3 to pza4 and scsi3 to scsi4 and
the pci slot no to the correct value.

This is the technique that ASE uses to make sure the devices have the
    same names on both systems.

    The entry looks like:

    pza3 at pci0 slot 5
    pza3 firmware...
    scsi3 at pza3 slot 0

This is from memory and I'm tired but I think its correct.

Not thinking very clearly. THIS IS A QUESTION!!!
Not a statement of knowledge.

Couldn't you just adding the extra card then moving all
of the higher cables down one then add the new SCSI bus to the now free (old)
controller work ????

  Just a thought

Yes, you're right with one proviso, and that is that all the scsi cards
    are the same type.

Then, if they are all KZPSA cards, will this work?
