    Thought that I would enter an update on the snow situation in the
    French Alps.
    
    After an excellent start to the season it has not snowed now for
    several weeks.
    
    I was in Val d'Isere for a week 19-27 Jan. It snowed a little bit the
    first Sunday but that was the last snow we had. It then got VERY warm
    and there was quite a lot of slush skiing. Then it got cold again and
    there was now ice skiing.
        
    There was however so much snow already there that the skiing was still
    good and it was possible to ski down to Les Bervieres (1500 m).
    
    Last Sunday went to Les Gets. Still snow cover down to the town (1100
    m) but VERY hard packed, icy in patches  with slush in patches on the
    run down to the town. A friend who wnet ot Megeve said that the snow
    there was not at all good.
    
    SO there is still plenty of snow BUT not necessarily in ideal
    conditions. The French holidays start this coming weekend and unless it
    precipitates soon I expect that the snow will soon start to disapear.
    
    The good news is thatit is raining here in Geneva (just a little !) so
    hopefully it is snowing in the Mountains.  AND it is quite cold....

    I was at Isola 2000 last Saturday. Like the northern Alpes, the
    southern Alpes haven't had any new snow for some time. 
    
    Once the sun melted the icy crust, the snow was good. However, there
    were places where stones had to be avoided, and the snow was slightly 
    muddy in colour. 
    
�               The French holidays start this coming weekend

It was snowing on the Women's Slalom at the World Championships in Sestriere, 
Italy last night - very close to the French Alps I believe.

    An interview on TF1 at Avoriaz (last night) was held in, what looked
    like, heavy falling snow. 
    
    However, there is a big fat High pressure sitting over France just now,
    so with the sun beating down (well, it is here!), I fear the worst. :-(

    past the hour.
    
    They reckoned their should be a fair amount of new snow over the next
    day or so.

    The rsn resort cam in Tignes has a report updated by people in Tignes,
    at 2am Sunday they reckoned they had 80 cm of new snow!

Yes, lots of new snow, and lots of avalanche danger as well. About 5 people 
killed skiing off-piste over the weekend.

    Has anyone seen a long range forecast for the Pyrenees ?.
    
    The poor old Andorra resorts seem to be suffering from a lack of
    fresh snow,all the weather systems hitting the French resorts seem to
    be missing them.
    
    Were due to fly to Pas De La Casa on Sunday and are a little concerned
    about the lack of fresh snow,it's been nearly 3 weeks since they had
    any snowfall worth talking about,is this normal ?

    Update on Andorra weather -
    
    Pack lot's of sun tan cream and throw in a couple of pairs of shorts.
    
    Just back from Pas De La Casa and the weather some days was up to 72
    degrees other days it was in the high sixty's.
    
    As you can imagine the snow conditions were pretty poor - very icy in
    the morning and in the afternoon it was a pile of slush.
    
    If anyone is thinking of going i would say hurry up before it melts.

    Update on Tignes/Val
    
    Loads of snow, very sunny and warm last week meant spring snow lower
    down, still 'winter' snow on the Grand Motte and most higher runs.

Weather forecast in the paper today has it staying warm until Thursday, but 
then a large drop in temperature and increase in rainfall from Friday. So the 
weekend may improve things for March, Easter skiers.

Training for the Swiss Championships cancelled yesterday because of too much 
new snow. Forecast is for snow down to ~500m, frost at nights - only on the N 
side of the Alps.
